Description

Athena was the supreme goddess to the ancient Greeks. It was she who introduced the olive tree to mankind. Athena was also the goddess of war, and the protector of men who were at war. But for her many attributes, she was best known for her exceptional wisdom. The greatest hero of the ancient Greeks was Herakles, who is better known by the name Hercules given him by the Romans.

This hero’s most difficult task was to kill the Nemean Lion, a fierce lion which had been given two special weapons from the gods – a skin which could not be cut or punctured, and claws which were so sharp they would cut through virtually anything. With his super-human strength and intelligence, Herakles decided to strangle the lion since he was unable to cut through its skin. After he killed the lion, he used its own razor sharp claws to remove its hide, and forever after Herakles wore the lion’s skin for protection and as a symbol of his victory.
